“I am now getting ready to start a new a new stage in my career”
Nicole was looking for a new job once her temporary contract as a charity administrator came to an end. She worked with Hyde’s Love London Working employment advisor, Raffaella.
Nicole did not feel that administration was the career path she wanted to take and wanted to move into employment support for vulnerable groups. Raffaella told her about an information and guidance course that would be useful to her to break into the field. Unfortunately, this course came at a cost that Nicole did could not afford, however Love London Working helped her with this.
Nicole said: ‘As I was unable to pay for the qualification myself, she helped me to research grant providers. After a couple of months I had successfully secured funding to start the qualification.’
Nicole met with Raffaella regularly to review her job searching progress and identify any other barriers that would stop her from securing a job, they worked together to find out how they could overcome these barriers.
Nicole said this about the process: ‘Raffaella always sent me details for roles that she thought I might be interested in. She was always on hand to review my applications and provide advice on updating my interview skills. A valuable tip she taught me which really helped, was to follow up with employers after I’d applied for a role, and to show lots of enthusiasm at interviews.
A role as an Employment Advisor came up at Twinning Enterprise, supporting customers with mental health problems to gain and sustain work. Nicole applied for the role and heard nothing back, but made sure she followed up and was told she had not been successful. However, after following up to thank them for considering her application, they invited her to an interview and was subsequently offered a role.
Nicole said: “Raffaella really helped me to access the training and job search skills I needed to facilitate my career change. I am now getting ready to start a new stage in my career that I am passionate about.”
