“The team there were good as they pushed me to do new things that I hadn’t done before”
Joynul, landed the role as a technician with start-up company Alcove. Alcove work in partnership with East Thames to transform lives by installing cutting edge technology in the homes of older people, people with learning disabilities and those with mental health needs.
After graduating with a degree in Business last year, Joynul, a 22-year-old East Thames resident was on the lookout for work experience to help build up his skills. He got in touch with the Love London Working team at East Thames’ after seeing an advert for work experience.
Joynul said: ‘My first placement was doing admin work, helping the neighbourhood officers and the lettings team, but after a while I started to meet customers and take them for viewings. ‘The team there were really good as they pushed me to do things that I hadn’t done before, so I learned new things.’
When our team found out that Alcove were looking for a technician to join their team, she knew that Joynul’s experience and technical knowledge made him a strong candidate for the role.
Joynul jumped at the chance to apply. After a successful interview, the Alcove team offered him a week’s trial with the company, based at East Thames’ offices at West Ham Lane. They were so impressed they offered him a full time job.
Alex Eavis, director and co-founder of Alcove, said: ‘Joynul is very proactive, interested and engaged, which is refreshing! We started out thinking it would be more of an apprenticeship role but he’s quickly become crucial to the company.’
Joynul said: ‘I think what Alcove does is brilliant. Since I’ve been working here I’ve heard of lots of positive stories of people who have been helped by the technology. They feel reassured knowing that support workers can tell if they need help. I’d really like to work in the operations side of things, managing contracts with clients. The potential is there for me to move up quickly.’
