Robertson Bell Finance are proud to be working in partnership with Tower Hamlets Homes, an award winning ALMO (Arm’s Length Management Organisation) to recruit a Management Accountant. Based near Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets Homes provides housing services to the local community of Tower Hamlets in London’s East End. The 21,000 homes they manage comprise of both leasehold and tenanted residences and represent roughly 20% of all homes in the borough. As such, the organisation has a powerful local presence, and their strong efforts over the last ten years have resulted in a significant increase in overall resident satisfaction.

The Management Accountant will work closely with, and report directly to, the Finance Manager. The role’s key responsibilities are to:
*Meet and liaise with budget holders on a monthly basis, coinciding with the monthly reporting cycle, to inform the best ongoing financial strategy
*Act as the Business Partner to areas including Asset Management, Neighbourhood Area Offices, and those in charge of the company’s running costs (including staff salaries), encouraging budget managers to take responsibility for their budgets and better inform decision making for the business
*Monitor Tower Hamlets Homes’ core company budget and delegated budget by providing KPIs and other management information to help assess performance & delivery of objectives, assisting in the development of new KPIs and encouraging Finance to be seen as a valuable resource
*Deliver monthly management accounts and reporting packs to produce budgets and forecasts
*Understand and extract data from the general ledger and summarise the month end report for the benefit of the organisation’s budget holders
*Consolidate key budgetary, financial and non-financial information for senior management to present to the board to assist with strategic decision making
*Oversee work of the assistant management accountant and the trainee, ensuring deadlines are met and monitoring KPIs
For this role, we are looking for an ambitious and proactive finance professional, either part qualified or qualified (CCAB), with first class communication skills. A background in a similar organisation, such as a local council, housing association or ALMO would be beneficial to demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the business. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills as the role involves manipulating large sets of data. Excellent interpersonal skills will be needed in order to question and challenge budget holders. Lastly, while prior team management experience is not essential, the appointed candidate will be able to demonstrate leadership attributes and a desire to lead a team.
